2015 Systex Student Award

Why

In 2009, the SysTex Student Award was launched in order to

•   stimulate R&D in the field of Smart Textiles

•   create awareness among students for industrial and societal challenges

•   promote cooperation between faculties and universities

•   enhance the R&D networking between universities and industry

 

What

From the submitted applications, a combination of a significant scientific or technological component on one side, with a significant economic or societal component on the other side are expected. Topics associated with the deployment of a new technology into a market are explicitly welcomed.

The winning student will be invited to the fourth edition of the Smart Textiles Salon on 25 June 2015 in MIAT, Ghent, Belgium to present his/her project. Registrations fee, travel and accommodation costs as well as a non-monetary prize will be donated by the organizers.

 

Who

The SysTex Student Award calls for all eligible bachelor, master or PhD students at European universities, research institutes and companies.

To be eligible, the subjects of the student’s project or thesis should be of both industrial and societal value. The focus fields are: smart textiles and all smart equipment or materials able to be integrated or embedded into smart textiles. As it is the scope of the Smart Textiles Salon, those projects/thesis’ including the development of a prototype are especially of great interest.

 

How

Submit a report on the research topic (see template) by 19 April 2015.

The submissions can be done only in electronic version by email to eitherCarla Hertleer or Sheilla Odhiambo.

Successful submission will be confirmed by e-mail to the student.

 

From the submitted projects or thesis’, a winning one will be designated and the submittor will be notified by 26 April 2015.

 

SysTex Student Award Project selection criteria

The members of the jury will base their decision on several selection criteria.

These criteria are (not in order of importance):

•  Goodness of fit of the project/thesis target with the defined focus domains

•  Degree of societal and industrial relevance

•  Relevance for SysTex and the “Smart Textiles Salon”

•  Degree of novelty

•  Quality of the submitted documents

·  Editorial quality of the report and the work presented in this report

In order to protect all strategic information, jury members and all other people taking part in the

selection process are ready to engage in Non-Disclosure Agreements where needed.
