In 2009, the Department of Textiles of Ghent University organised the Smart Textiles Salon Vol.1.

The idea was to bring Smart Texitle prototypes on stage and visible to the world. We wanted to make it clear that smart Textiles were not only existing in research projects but have a huge potential for market introdcution. 

The concept to introduce the prototypes was that of an interactive exhibition; the exhibitor shortly presents his prototype to the audience and the participant can closely interact with the exhibitor and his/her prototype. This concept strengthens the interaction between exhibitor and participant. 

This interactive concept has been amazingly succesfull, so the Smart Textiles Salon became a biennial event. 

This year, the Smart Textiles Salon Vol.4 is organised by the Department of Textiles  with the support of Centexbel and MIAT.

The event is organized in the framework of the projects SMARTpro, Wintex, Systex and 2BFuntex.
